Una Voce is an international lay organization of Roman Catholics faithful to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church and obedient to the authority of Benedict XVI. We are dedicated to maintaining the Roman liturgy codified by Pope St. Pius V, known as the Tridentine or Latin Mass, as one of the universally recognized and honored forms of Eucharistic celebration. Una Voce also promotes Latin, the official Church language, and Gregorian chant, the official Church music. | |||

From Ecclesia Dei: To all those Catholic faithful who feel attached to some previous liturgical and disciplinary forms of the Latin tradition, I wish to manifest my will to facilitate their ecclesial communion by means of the necessary measures to guarantee respect for their rightful aspirations. In this matter I ask for the support of the bishops and of all those engaged in the pastoral ministry in the Church. ...moreover, respect must everywhere be shown for the feelings of all those who are attached to the Latin liturgical tradition, by a wide and generous application of the directives already issued some time ago by the Apostolic See, for the use of the Roman Missal according to the typical edition of 1962 - - -Ecclesia Dei, 2 July 1988 To guard the treasure which Jesus confided to Her and facing the future resolutely, the Church has the duty to reflect continuously on Her link with the Tradition which has come to us from the Lord, through the Apostles, such as it has been established all down through history. In line with the spirit of conversion of the apostolic letter Tertio milennio adveniente (nn. 14, 32, 34, 50), I encourage all Catholics to make gestures of unity and to renew their adherence to the Church, in order that legitimate diversity and different sensibilities, worthy of respect, do not separate them from each other, but encourage them, rather, to preach the Gospel together. Stimulated, thus, by the Spirit who makes all charismata come together in unity, all will be able to glorify the Lord and salvation will be proclaimed to all the nations. - - -1998 Address on the Tenth Anniversary of Ecclesia Dei |

Proper Prayers of the Mass Available on CD-ROM Una Voce of Orange County is pleased to announce the availability of the Proper Prayers of the Mass for Sundays and Holy Days on CD-ROM. No more broken links! No more temperamental website problems! Have your propers ready long before you need them.. Cost: $20 U.S.D. plus $6 shipping. To obtain your copy, please contact Dave at viceprez2@uvoc.org. The long heralded, long awaited, and in some circles long feared Motu Proprio "Summorum Pontificum" (Of the Supreme Pontiffs) was officially promulgated on July 7th 2007 AD. The full text is available here via the blog rorate-caeli along with a letter from the Holy Father explaining his actions and intentions here. A cursory reading indicates the Holy Father's will to grant the Mass on a daily basis along with the traditional forms of the other Sacraments. It leaves the establishment of the Mass up to the Parish priest as follows: In parishes, where there is a stable group of faithful who adhere to the earlier liturgical tradition, the pastor should willingly accept their requests to celebrate the Mass according to the rite of the Roman Missal published in 1962, and ensure that the welfare of these faithful harmonises with the ordinary pastoral care of the parish, under the guidance of the bishop in accordance with canon 392, avoiding discord and favouring the unity of the whole Church." Recourse to the Bishop, who is "strongly requested to satisfy their wishes", is to be exercised if the faithful are denied by the pastor. The Ecclesia Dei Commission is to advise if the bishop has difficulty crafting a solution. Since the directives contained in "Summorum Pontificum" do not take effect until Sept 14, we have time to speculate on how the implementation of this latest Motu Proprio will unfold. At the very least it publicly recognizes that the Mass of Pius V has never been abrogated and gives the faithful more tools to go about securing it for themselves and their children. Also, we predict the Norbertine Fathers will be incredibly busy, as will the traditional orders such as the FSSP and the ICKSP. Please support them as your circumstances permit! Let us pray that this directive from the Holy Father will be received in the spirit of true charity toward those who are drawn to the peace and solemnity of this Holy Mass. UVOC's Role, Post Motu Proprio Now that the M.P. has been promulgated, much has changed for UVOC. We are offering our support, as finances permit, to parishes in our diocese in several ways. We have pledged to provide material needs, such as booklet missals, the proper prayers of the Mass appropriate to the Sunday, and assisting with training interested priests via the FSSP-Una Voce America joint training program (click here), as well as a resource for obtaining the myriad items needed to offer the Tridentine Mass. In addition, we assist with funerals and baptisms (and soon, weddings) by providing (on loan) missalettes or booklets , traditional vestments and other items for these sacraments in the traditional rite not currently available in most parishes. We encourage anyone who is interested in having a funeral, baptism or wedding according to the Missal of 1962 to ask their pastor for it, in accordance with the Motu Proprio (M.P.) and to contact us for assistance. In addition, UVOC has been called by some members to clarify, via Rome, some questions about the practical application of the M.P. that have arisen. We seek to assist in any way possible the implementation of the M.P. according to the intention of the Holy Father, for the salvation of souls and the greater glory of God. Please know that your concerns are our own, and that we seek to promote unity via a better understanding of the Tridentine Mass and those who are devoted to it. Traditional Catholic Networking A new idea has come across from a website, "lumengentleman.com". This website has set up a database all over the world for those interested in forming "stable groups" to ask for Tridentine Masses in their home parishes, as per the Motu Proprio which was promulgated in July, and effective September 14th. We encourage everyone to consider using the aforementioned website as a way to contact each other with this goal in mind. No personal information, even names, is posted or made public. We are impressed thus far with the growth of this database, and the fact that it is one remarkable "Trad "man, in his spare time, who put it together. If you are interested in participating, please click here ! New Masses Available We are pleased to announce that the Mass of the Ages has returned to St. Mary's By the Sea in Huntington Beach. It is offered at Noon every Sunday. Thanks be to our Lord! In addition, the Tridentine Mass (a.k.a. "extraordinary form of the Mass) is offered now at St John the Baptist Church in Costa Mesa, every Sunday at 10:30 a.m., St Thomas More Church in Irvine, on the second Sunday of each month at 12:30 p.m., and of course at the Pope John Paul II Polish Center in Yorba Linda every Sunday at 7 a.m. and at Mission San Juan Capistrano Serra Chapel every Sunday at 8 a.m. Faithful Servant Called Home We have lost a great champion of the Latin Mass. Fr. Harry Marchosky died 11 December in Oregon. A very moving account of his life and death may be found on the Remnant web site. There was a Tridentine Requiem Mass on Saturday 15 December at St. Michael's Abbey in Silverado. We ask you to pray generously for the repose of his soul. “Ego sum resurrectio et vita: qui credit in me, etiam si mortuus fuerit, vivet: et omnis qui vivit et credit in me non morietur in aeternum.” O Lord, incline Thine ear unto the prayers whereby we humbly call upon thee to show mercy unto the soul of Thy servant Fr. Marchosky which Thou hast commanded to depart out of this life; that it may please Thee to set him in a place of peace and light, and give him a part with Thy Saints. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, one God, world without end. Amen. We also ask you to please continue to pray for the soul of Father Daniel Johnson, former pastor of St Mary's by the Sea in Huntington Beach and for Herb Evander, former sacristan of Serra Chapel at Mission San Juan Capistrano. The Board of Una Voce of Orange County is pleased to announce that Mr. Mark Galindo has agreed to serve in the capacity of First Vice President until the next General Meeting, where an election will be held. Mr. Galindo agreed to serve after the elected First Vice President, Damien Garcia, left the area for professional opportunities. We thank Mr. Garcia for his exceptional service, and he is missed! We are very grateful to Mr. Galindo for stepping into this role. In addition, Mr. Galindo is a regular altar server at the 7 a.m. Tridentine Mass at the Pope John Paul II Polish Center in Yorba Linda. There will be Tridentine Masses offered on Ash Wednesday, Feb 6th, at the following locations: Pope John Paul II Polish Center 4:00 PM 3999 Rose Drive Yorba Linda St. Mary's By the Sea No Mass 321 10th St. Huntington Beach Bl. Junipero Serra Chapel No Mass Mission San Juan Capistrano 31522 Camino Capistrano San Juan Capistrano San Secondo D'Asti No Mass 250 N. Turner Rd Guasti Other Masses, if any, will be posted as information becomes available. Our prayers have finally been answered! A second Indult Tridentine Mass location has been granted for the Diocese of Orange. The new location is at the Pope John Paul II Polish Center in Yorba Linda, on Sundays weekly at 7 a.m., offered by Father Xavier Trebels, O. Praem.. Click here to read the official Diocesan announcement of the additional Mass. We realize there are many questions about this new location and arrangements. We will try to address a few of those questions here: Question 1: Why was this location chosen? Answer: A site needed to be found that could accommodate people in the northern part of the diocese. San Juan Capistrano addresses the needs (to a degree) of those in the southern portion of the diocese, but it is nearly 50 miles from the north end of the diocese. In addition, the new site needed to have an existing Mass schedule that could accommodate the addition of a Tridentine Mass, and have the capacity for the number of people expected. The Pope John Paul II Polish Center site addresses all of those needs. The site was chosen by the Chancery, and Father Blais was very willing to be of service to those attached to the Mass of the Ages. For information about the PJPII Polish Center, click here. Question 2: Who chose the time? Answer: The time was chosen to impact the existing parish schedule as little as possible. This time was also chosen with the traditional eucharistic fast (after midnight) in mind, as the option would have been far later in the day. Question 3: What about Holy Days of Obligation? Answer: Good news! We will be having Masses on Holy Days of Obligation. Please check back on this site for specifics nearer to the actual dates. Question 4: Who will offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass? Answer: We are fortunate to have a recently ordained Norbertine priest, Father Xavier Trebels, O. Praem., assigned to us. He has a good deal of support and assistance from his superiors at the Abbey, who are very interested in ensuring the success of this additional site. Question 5: Why did the Bishop finally grant this Mass, and why not at the previous site (St Mary's in Huntington Beach)? UVOC was not contacted directly by the diocese, and we do not know the immediate reasons for this decision. We have maintained a cordial correspondence with the Chancery, and we have repeatedly in the past requested another Mass site in addition to San Juan Capistrano, so we do know that Bishop Brown was aware of the needs of the traditional faithful in the Diocese. As far as why not at St. Mary's, we don't know the answer to that, either; it may be that there has been so much controversy there that it has become a "hot potato". We wish it were otherwise, but perhaps in the future we may have a third Mass - or more - all things are possible with God! Much still needs to be done to gather all of the necessary items and publicity to make this successful! Thank you to all those who have contributed towards the purchase of the candlesticks, altar linens, altar missal stand, missalettes, vestments and so many other things. We still have many things to acquire, but we are able to offer the Mass of the Ages beautifully (albeit simply) now. We are still in need of additional altar linens, candle followers, and the like, so we would still appreciate any donations. Many thanks to Father Blais, pastor of the JPII Center, for agreeing to shepherd the Traditional flock in Northern Orange County. We ask that everyone celebrate this additional opportunity, and remember that the Pope John Paul II Polish Center is welcoming the traditional community into its home. And offer a prayer of thanksgiving to Our Lady of Good Counsel... Other updates about the PJPIIPC Mass: We need more people to attend Mass at this location, although attendance is steady at about 75. We understand the hour is difficult, but for those who live locally, it is a great way to begin the Lord's Day! UVOC Records Latin Mass Magazine's Feb. 2008

Future Events Lenten
Mission Pilgrimage Paris - Chartres Pilgrimage May 10-12, 2008 Advance
Planning is Essential!! **NB: As of 9/26/2007, the NDC website, French or English, has not been updated yet to reflect next year's pilgrimage.
Unfortunately, the Lanfranchi family, which has helped lead the UV-OC chapter for several years in the past, will not be going to France this year. This leaves a couple of options: 3. You may register on the Notre Dame de Chretiente website, if you leave enough time (8 weeks). There are pilgrim armbands that must be worn for the pilgrimage, and no-one is admitted without it, for security reasons. If you are unable to pre-register in time to have the armband sent to you in the U.S., it may be sent to wherever your accommodations are in France, it can be waiting with your chapter leader, or you can register on the morning of May 10 on-site, in front of Notre Dame de Paris. If you wish to join the pilgrimage while it is in progress, for instance on the last day, arrangements can be made for a rendez-vouz. They must be made ahead of time, however, and your armband must be purchased ahead of time as there is no way to purchase it once the pilgrimage is underway. One may join the pilgrimage for the last day at the beginning, midway, or just prior to entering Chartres, depending on the ability to walk. Also, a chapter must be arranged ahead of time for you to join up with, i.e. either the Irish, English, or Remnant chapters. Transportation to the rendez-vouz point is via the train system in paris to Chartres, with cars (driven by the many wonderful volunteers) to take you to a pre-arranged meeting spot. Please, contact us at secretary@uvoc.org to arrange this as soon as possible. The actual 3-day pilgrimage will be May 10-12. Pilgrims meet, as usual, in front of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris at 6 a.m. on May 10th. Please contact us if interested in experiencing this awesome penitential event. secretary@uvoc.org . UVOC is not a travel agency, but we
are willing to serve as a resource and coordinate your trip and help with
finding airfare, accommodations and make other recommendations.
Passports must be obtained on your own. Some helpful sites: We encourage families, and renting an apartment is a great way to keep costs down and manage the trip with the little people (a.k.a. children). Please copy & paste the following link, and keep a map of Paris nearby! In rare circumstances, very spartan accommodations can be found for free. This is only for those unable to afford the pilgrimage in any other way - it involves sleeping on the floor in a rectory, so please, only inquire if circumstances dictate. For information & assistance, please e-mail us or call (562) 691-5246.
Still in the planning stages, we are considering different themes and speakers at this time. Is there someone whom you would like to hear? A subject you would like to see addressed? Feel free to contact us at secretary@uvoc.org !

Bishop Celebrates 35th Anniversary of Ordination! Fundraiser Garage Sale The garage sale was held on June 3 in Orange. Approximately $150 was raised, with no expenses. The members who donated their items to the sale get a big "Thank You!" General Meeting - May 6 The General Meeting was held on May 6, at the St Joseph's Radio facilities. At the meeting, the officers were elected by those members present: Dave Lanfranchi, President; Damien Garcia de la Cadena, First Vice President; Paul Marchand, Second Vice President; Michael Rains, Treasurer; and Joy Lanfranchi, Secretary. Also presented were the financial report (we are solvent, with a little in the bank - please contact us directly if details are desired); the Fall Conference, which will likely be held in San Juan Capistrano; and the idea of "prayer squads". Prayer Squads will be asked to go to the local parishes when the Blessed Sacrament is exposed, and pray the Rosary -preferably in Latin- thus obtaining graces and raising awareness. Members will be contacted by e-mail or snail mail to alert them of when their local parish has holy hours, with the name & number of a squad leader who will coordinate times. Please respond when you are contacted! UVOC's Sixth Annual Lenten Mission Pilgrimage was again a success, with about 75 pilgrims of all ages, and a beautiful Tridentine Mass at the conclusion. Many thanks to all who participated, especially Father Justin Ramos of St. Michael's Abbey, Past UVOC President Paul Marchand, members of the choir, ushers and the altar servers. Also, thank you to Father Art Holquin for making Serra Chapel available to us, and Bishop Brown for his blessing and permission for the Mass. Many confessions were heard, and many, many graces obtained. Get ready for next year! Ongoing Events Other
